I consistently observed hardware crashes where the server logs the error and the display turns amber whenever I made network changes to the host card via the web admin interface.įourth is a nasty USB issue that creeps up in Windows 10. Once you gain access to the host card after resetting it via Dell's reset instructions, be aware that with the FX100 host card in an R610 chassis (or possibly any non-workstation chassis), you may experience a hard system crash when you change the network settings on the card. WYSE P20 clients work well with the Dell host cards. Dell is the best source for firmware versions for cards and clients and eBay is the best source for Dell host cards and FX100 clients. Second is obtaining the firmware versions & host drivers. Don't waste your time trying to force the newer browser, just use an old XP virtual machine. Newer browsers dont work right or absolutely refuse to talk to the weaker encryption schemed hardware. If the firmware is old (3.x or earlier), you'll need an older browser (windows XP works great) to access and upload firmware.
Everything is working fairly well, but there are a few things to avoid if you find this setup interesting or of possible use.įirst up is updating host card/client firmware.
The host cards and clients work well through a broad range of firmware but the best bang-for-the-buck is from using the last version that is compatible with Windows 10 圆4 (4.7.1). So far the Dell Tera1 host cards have worked well in the R610s, with the exception of loss of the ability to put the server to sleep, as that is not an option for R610 hardware. My rack is currently in transition, as I am working to phase out the 2U Dell R5400 workstations in favor of Dell R610 servers.
